Cropwise alternatives: what to compare before you move

Updated August 25, 2026

Planva is a Cropwise alternative when the farm wants control over data location, a vendor-handled migration, and a price quoted per hectare. It is not the right move when a required Syngenta workflow still runs the operation.

Compare the workflow first, then the export, data location, contract, and support. Cropwise Operations is the current name for Cropio. A replacement only works if the field names and history survive the move.

What actually moves

  • Field boundaries and names. Taken from the export and checked against Cropwise.
  • Crop rotation and operation history. Every season that exists in the files.
  • Machinery and trackers. Exported, or supplied as a separate list.
  • Scouting notes and photos. Only if the export includes them. We say so before cutover if it does not.
  • Satellite history. Rebuilt for the migrated boundaries. It is not a reason to stay.

How the day goes

  1. Export. You send the Cropwise files, or you give us temporary access and we prepare them.
  2. Map. We match identifiers, names, areas, seasons, operations, crops, and machinery.
  3. Check. You compare a sample of fields and seasons with Cropwise before anyone accepts the import.
  4. Cut over. The team starts in Planva. The old account can stay open as a reference.

How long it takes

A straightforward farm can work in Planva in one day. A holding at 30,000 ha or messy source files take longer. The field-by-field check matters more than a fast upload.

Who should not buy

Do not buy Planva if Cropwise is required for a Syngenta workflow. Do not buy if you cannot get a usable export of the records you must keep. Do not switch in a critical spray window unless both teams have agreed the export, the sample, and the date.

What farms ask before choosing an alternative

Planva. We handle the migration. Data stays in-country or on-prem. Price is quoted per hectare on the farm. It fits holdings that want the existing field history moved, not a blank map.
