Planva reads NDVI on wheat and sunflower against each field's own recent pattern. Not against a universal color scale.
NDVI measures actively photosynthesizing biomass. It does not name a cause. That matters here because sowing date, hybrid, and canopy closure change the baseline. A drop versus last week on the same field is the signal. A green map of a late-sown neighbour is not.
How Planva uses NDVI on these crops
- Compare the field with itself. Wheat tillering and sunflower canopy closure have different healthy ranges. The field's own history is the reference.
- Add NDMI and EVI. Moisture and canopy density separate a dry patch from thin stand or cloud edge.
- Use radar when optical is blocked. Cloud is common in the grain belt. Radar keeps the queue moving.
- Measure the hectares. A persistent five-hectare change outranks scattered pixels.
- Send a scout with a question. The output is a polygon and a reason to walk.
Wheat, sunflower, and the rest of the rotation
Wheat and sunflower are in the Planva crop list, alongside barley, corn, soybean, canola, and orchard crops. The same field object keeps rotation, operations, and imagery. A sunflower anomaly is read with last year's wheat history still attached.
Who should not buy
Do not buy Planva for NDVI if you want a color map and no scouting process. Do not treat a wheat or sunflower NDVI drop as a spray order without a ground check and crop-stage context.
